Passover Package Delivery

Location: DOROT, 171 West 85th Street off Amsterdam Avenue, Manhattan

Celebrate the Jewish holiday of Passover by delivering gifts of food to our older friends in the community. Volunteers pick up the package at Dorot and then go to visit a senior in their home!
 
Ages: 4-12 years old with parent

  • Saturday, April 22, Jefferson Gardens (300 East 115th Street at Second Avenue outside Jefferson Houses)
Join Concrete Safaris to help clean and beautify this community garden. Tasks may include: shoveling topsoil and wood chips, composting, creating paths, planting, raking, weeding and more. Dress in layers and bring a water bottle.

It's My Park Day

Location: Various locations - Project details and meeting sites are determined two weeks before the project based on the weather and the needs of the park.  

Chip in for spring park improvement projects throughout Riverside Park! These projects are great ways to meet other volunteers or just explore a different area of the Park. Community volunteer events are held rain or shine.  

Ages: Families with children ages 10 and older are welcome to volunteer.

Host a Birthday Party for Homeless Children

Founded in 2014 in New York by two teens, Talia Eskenazi and Chase Kauder, Celebrate U is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to spread happiness by throwing birthday parties for disadvantaged children, living in underserved communities. The effect of these celebrations goes way beyond cake and party favors. Celebrate U believes that by showing children that their community truly cares about them, it can raise self-esteem, provide hope for a brighter future and empower children.

NY Cares Day - Spring 2016
NY Cares
 
Date/Time: Saturday, April 22, 9:30 am - 2 pm
 
Location: Throughout the five boroughs

Make NYC a Cleaner and Greener Place to Live! Take part in New York City's largest hands-on spring-cleaning event, and join more than 4,000 volunteers to revitalize the city's public outdoor spaces. This year, volunteers will clean up shorelines, restore garden beds, plant flowers and trees, paint benches, and remove invasive species. By the end of the day, 70 parks and gardens in all 5 boroughs will be transformed.

Ages: Ages 14 and up, accompanied by an adult at all times. Youth between 14 and 17 can participate as part of a Youth Team and all under age participants must have a signed parental consent form.

9/11 Memorial 5K Run/Walk and Family Day
National September 11 Memorial and Museum
 
Date/Time: Sunday, April 23, 5K events begin at 8am
Family Day activities are from 9am - 2pm
 
Location: Run/Walk begins at Pier 26; Family Day will be held on Greenwich Street, between Cortland and Liberty, adjacent to the 9/11 Memorial Plaza

The 911 Memorial is sponsoring the annual 5K Run/Walk and Family Day to raise awareness about the National September 11 Memorial and Museum and to encourage volunteerism in memory of 9/11. Following the 5K Run/Walk, Family Day festivities will include entertainment and meaningful activities for all ages, food and refreshments. This event will also offer information about the Memorial and Museum and ways to learn about volunteer opportunities. Pre-registration and a fee are required for participating in the 5K, and there are adult, teen and child divisions. The Family Day event is free and does not require registration.

Meal Delivery

Location: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, & the Bronx

Citymeals on Wheels is a meals on wheels program serving the homebound elderly in New York City. We partner with community-based organizations and senior centers to supplement the city's weekday meal delivery program. Volunteers deliver nutritious meals to homebound elderly New Yorkers, within walking distance of local senior centers. Volunteers must complete an application (available online) and attend an orientation before they are able to volunteer. 
 
Ages: All ages, however an adult MUST accompany anyone younger than 16 years old.

Xavier Mission seeks to welcome, serve and empower those in our New York City community who are in need of human and material support. They provide food, clothing, shelter and life-skills training, guided always by a spirit of love and respect and the goal of building self-sufficiency and self-esteem. The Mission operates a food pantry, shelter and welcome table soup kitchen. Pre-registration is required via email.
