Celebrate National Family Volunteer Day with Doing Good Together™
Families are invited to come together to do simple, hands-on service projects, reflect on the importance of giving back, and learn about opportunities to keep giving back as a family.
This year's kid-friendly service projects will support the work of the following Twin Cities nonprofits:
- People Serving People
Assemble cold weather care kits for people experiencing homelessness.
- Metro Meals on Wheels
Create unique place mats for meals delivered to homebound senior citizens.
- Open Arms
Decorate bags used to deliver groceries and meals to people struggling with illnesses such as cancer, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis and ALS.
- Bundles of Love
Make bibs and decorate quilt squares to help support low-income newborns.
- Andersen United Community School ESL program
Make whisper phones to help support students learning English as a second language.
- Animal Humane Society
Make toys for cats waiting for a forever home.
- Camp Noah
Make no-sew fleece blankets to help bring comfort to children living in communities touched by disaster and/or trauma.
- International Institute of Minnesota
Assemble home starter kits for newly resettled refugee families.
- National Alliance on Mental Illness Minnesota
Package slime to help kids experiencing mental illness.
- Oasis for Youth
Donate $1 to add a pair of socks to the Sock Line in support of teens experiencing homelessness.
Each organization will have a representative available to provide information about their mission and opportunities to stay engaged as a family.
FREE to the public; no RSVP needed.
All ages welcome.
Up to 1.5 hours of free parking is available at the Midtown Exchange Parking ramp with validation.
The DGT™ Family Service Fair will be held in conjunction with Midtown Global Market's Family Night and will feature live family entertainment from 5:30 to 7:30pm in the Market's Central Plaza.
