building strong families, caring kids and a better world

Projects and Events

Often all it takes for families to get excited about a volunteer project is the right opportunity. Doing Good Together (DGT) can suggest countless ideas to motivate your families to come together to serve others. We can assist every step of the way, including:

  • Assist in identifying appropriate projects
  • Help identify sources of funding for the event
  • Develop a communication plan
  • Coordinate and execute the event
  • Provide follow-up support to encourage ongoing volunteerism
  • Include a reflection and education component for each project

Doing Good Together is a Twin Cities–based, nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging parents and other adults to raise compassionate and socially conscious children by spending time together with them in community service, social action and charitable giving.

Examples of projects your group might consider:

·        “In-House” Family Service Night. Hold this event right at your school or faith group. Various “stations” are set up so that families can make items to benefit those in need, such as assembling sandwiches for the homeless, writing cards for chronically sick children, making blankets for children in need of comfort, stuffing birthday bags for children living in poverty, or decorating and filling breakfast bags for the kids at Ronald McDonald House.

·        Family Service Day. Imagine the impact when families spend an entire day serving the community. We will help you design a variety of opportunities (both at your organization and in the community) so that families can choose the project(s) that fits their schedule and interests. This might include packaging meals for the hungry at Feed My Starving Children, assembling health kits, cleaning up a nearby park, serving a meal at a local homeless shelter, or packing school supplies for children in need.

·        Projects with Local Partners. We can help you connect to nonprofits in your area and to the people dedicated to local needs. Families can assist these agencies in their work, whether it’s planting trees, reading with the elderly, sorting donated merchandise, or doing repair and yard work for the disabled.

Costs/Funding:

Events can be customized to meet your specific needs. Costs begin at $500, but will vary depending upon the scope of project you choose. Again, Doing Good Together can help identify sources of funding if needed.
