Hungering to do more this holiday season? Volunteer for Meals on Wheels!

‘Tis the season for holiday gatherings, shopping trips, and New Year’s resolutions.  With the holiday season upon us and winter break from school fast approaching are you looking to add more meaning to your holiday season…or just keep your kids from getting bored during the holiday school break?

Volunteering for Meals on Wheels is a great way to add some goodwill to your family’s holiday season; in fact it may even become your newest annual holiday family tradition.

Meals on Wheels is a long-standing organization in the Twin Cities that delivers nutritious meals and vital social connection to seniors and individuals with disabilities in our community which enables them to live independent lives in their own homes.

Meals are delivered weekdays around lunchtime so we encourage your family to sign up for a route during winter break from school or to plan ahead to the next school break.    During a one hour route your family will spend quality time together, help others right in your community, and gain an awareness and respect for individual differences in our community.  After your family is done with your route grab a cup of hot chocolate and make it an annual holiday tradition!

We invite you to learn more about Meals on Wheels and the many ways your family can help at www.meals-on-wheels.com/family. While visiting you can see pictures and videos of other families volunteering and check out our many resources available to help make volunteering for Meals on Wheels an enriching experience for the entire family.

“Our family started delivering meals last summer as a way to begin a volunteer activity with our children.  Meals on Wheels is a great family opportunity as even the youngest children can carry a bag or milk.  The recipients are so happy to see the kids!  … Just when they are getting antsy, your route is over as each route is completed in one hour or less.  A wonderful organization.”

-Marianne & Jim R., Volunteers & Parents of 4 Children, ages 6-12

Thank you to guest blogger Kelsey Ohme with Metro Meals on Wheels. My three and five-year-old loved our time with Meals on Wheels. It’s a fun and rewarding way to spend time in the community with your kids.
