National Service Learning Conference

Doing Good Together will be offering a workshop at the National Service Learning Conference in San Jose, CA on March 25, 2010 called “Enriching Service Learning through Family Involvement.” The presentation will focus on how families and educators together can support and nurture emerging service leaders. We’ll be offering attendees specific tools and strategies for engaging families as partners in service-learning. We’ll also be “showcasing” our Family Service Night event.

DGT in the Schools

Two of our partner schools, Minnewashta Elementary in Excelsior, Minn. and Capitol Hill Magnet in St. Paul, Minn., are hosting DGT Family Service events this evening. We’d love to get many more schools around the country offering families these opportunities. That’s why we’re headed to St. Louis on March 4 for a regional PTO Expo, where we’ll introduce DGT and share the concept of Family Service Night with schools in that region.

Raising Compassionate Kids

Come hear DGT Executive Director, Jenny Friedman, speak on the topic “Compassionate Kids: 10 Steps to Raising a Caring Child.” This presentation, especially appropriate for parents of young children, explains how caring develops in children and how parents can teach those lessons. Included are 10 simple strategies for raising warm, curious children who understand the joy of compassion and service, and who meet the world with integrity. No charge.

Hands On Twin Cities Expo

Small Hands, Big Hearts

Small Hands, Big Heart: Sparking the Spirit of Giving, our two-week partnership with the Minnesota Children’s Museum, just concluded. It was wildly successful! Museum visitors took part in a variety of service-learning projects, including decorating lunch bags and placemats for Meals on Wheels recipients, creating greeting cards for soldiers and ill children, and learning about charitable giving. Thanks to all who helped out!
