The following resources are available to enhance your family service efforts.

  • A Busy Family’s Guide to Volunteering by DGT Executive Director Jenny Friedman, a comprehensive book describing hundreds of volunteer opportunities, including projects with children, the elderly, the environment, animals, cultural organizations and political campaigns.
  • Doing Good Together: 101 Easy, Meaningful Service Projects for Families, Schools and Communities by Jenny Friedman and Jolene Roehlkepartain offers hands-on service projects focused on easing poverty, promoting literacy, supporting the troops, helping the environment, and more. Each of the 101 self-contained projects provides an overview, time requirements, materials list, step-by-step instructions, debriefing questions, recommended books for kids and teens, and ideas for extending the activity.
  • DGT’s Family Service Night Manual, with all the information you need to host a fun, meaningful volunteer evening. The event consists of 5 to 10 “stations,” each one offering a simple, hands-on service project for families.
  • Information packet to assist families in establishing their own tradition of community service, including information on holiday volunteering, volunteer vacations, which organizations welcome family volunteers and more. You are encouraged to copy this information and distribute it to the families in your organization through your own website or publications. Email us for more information.
