Projects & Events
Often all it takes for families to get excited about a volunteer project is the right opportunity. Doing Good Together (DGT) can suggest countless ideas to motivate your families (and other intergenerational groups) to come together to serve others. We can assist every step of the way, including:
- Identifying appropriate projects
- Developing a communication plan
- Coordinating and executing the event
- Creating a reflection and education component for each project
- Providing follow-up support to encourage ongoing volunteerism
Examples of projects/events your group might consider:
- Family Service Night. Hold this event right at your school, faith group, business or other organization. Various “stations” are set up so that families can make items to benefit those in need, such as assembling sandwiches for the homeless, writing cards for chronically sick children, making blankets for children in need of comfort, stuffing birthday bags for children living in poverty, or decorating and filling breakfast bags for the kids at Ronald McDonald House.
- Service Day. Imagine the impact when families spend an entire day serving the community. We will help you design a variety of opportunities (both at your organization and in the community) so that families can choose the project(s) that fits their schedule and interests. This might include packaging meals for the hungry at Feed My Starving Children, assembling health kits, cleaning up a nearby park, serving a meal at a local homeless shelter, or packing school supplies for children in need.
- Projects with Local Partners. We can help you connect to nonprofits in your area and to the people dedicated to local needs. Families can assist these agencies in their work, whether it’s planting trees, reading with the elderly, sorting donated merchandise, or doing repair and yard work for the disabled.
