CREATE A GIVING PLATE FOR VALENTINE’S DAY

Here’s a fun way to celebrate the day of love. Decorate a clean white ceramic plate with permanent markers. Write a verse around the rim (like the fun poem below). Bake the plate, as described in the directions. Now load the plate with goodies for a neighbor in need of some extra love, and make your delivery.

Roses are red,

Neighbors are great,

Enjoy these treats,

Then pass the plate.

Talk to your child: Have you ever thought of doing a kind thing for a neighbor or friend, but decided not to because you were nervous or shy? How could you overcome these feelings in the future?

Book to share: The Gift of Nothing by Patrick McDonnell. Ages 4 and up. A wonderful story for inspiring a discussion about the power of friendship, appreciation for what we have, and the true meaning of gift giving.
