Celebrate National Family Volunteer Day with Doing Good Together™
Families are invited to come together to do simple, hands-on service projects, reflect on the importance of giving back, and learn about opportunities to keep giving back as a family.
This year's event will feature the following kid-friendly service project stations:
Support people struggling with illnesses (Open Arms)
Create a Thanksgiving centerpiece to bring extra cheer to Thanksgiving meals served to people struggling with illnesses such as cancer, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis and ALS.
Promote literacy and education (Books for Africa)
Donate new or gently used books for both children and adults and make a bookmark to go with the donation of books to underserved areas of Africa.
Support babies in need (Bundles of Love)
Make bibs and decorate quilt squares to help support young families in need.
Protect the environment (Boomerang Bags)
Create fabric tote bags to replace single use plastic bags. The bags will be donated to shoppers to encourage them to think about the environment and the impact plastic bags have on nature.
Support survivors of violence (Women of Nations)
Decorate comfort stones and assemble self-care kits for survivors of violence.
Care for senior citizens (Walker Methodist)
Create aromatherapy dough to comfort and brighten the day of a senior citizen.
Promote peace (Iraqi-American Reconciliation Project)
Write a letter or decorate a card for a child in Iraq, fostering peace and understanding across cultures.
Each organization will have a representative available to provide information about their mission and opportunities to stay engaged as a family.
FREE to the public; no RSVP needed.
All ages welcome.
Up to 1.5 hours of free parking is available at the Midtown Exchange Parking ramp with validation.
The DGT™ Family Service Fair will be held in conjunction with Midtown Global Market's Family Night and will feature live family entertainment from 5:30 to 7:30pm in the Market's Central Plaza.
We are grateful to Kinderberry Hill Child Development Centers for their generous Gold Level Sponsorship of this year's event.
