Family life can get busy, and it's easy to slip out of contact with long-distance relatives. Make an effort to stay in touch by offering an unexpected phone call or video chat. This is a great opportunity to practice phone etiquette -- perhaps a fading art in the age of texting. You might even want to celebrate your relative with a Big-Hearted Award.

Talk to your child:

  • Which relatives would you like to surprise with a phone call or video chat? What would you like to tell them? What questions should we ask them?
  • What do you like most about each our faraway family members?
