Doing Good Together™ Family Service Fairs

A Fun Occasion with Lessons that Last

In an approximately two-hour open house style event, a Doing Good Together™ Family Service Fair features a variety of opportunities for families and other interested participants to do simple and fun hands-on projects that benefit non-profit organizations meeting needs in the community.

“Our parents, students, and teachers were so inspired and energized by [our Family Service Fair] and want to know when we are going to do it again. As a PTA officer, I have never been thanked so many times and received so much positive feedback about a program as I have received about this one. This event really touches people.”
— Sonya T., Briar Lake Elementary, Decatur, Georgia

Each DGT™ Family Service Fair includes projects such as...

  • Educational toys for children in crisis
  • Dinner kits for low-income families
  • Toys for orphaned animals
  • “Happy mail” for children struggling with serious illnesses
  • Hygiene kits for homeless families

Those who participate in a DGT™ Family Service Fair receive take-home project ideas and tools to reflect on their experience, so they can continue their involvement in community service on their own. Past participants consistently rate the fairs as positive experiences, with 94% saying the event was "great."

When we come together to do good, everyone benefits!

Research shows family volunteering teaches empathy, community responsibility and good citizenship to young people; strengthens families through improved communication and time together; and meets critical community needs by encouraging philanthropy. The Doing Good Together™ Family Service Fair is a great community event for neighborhoods, schools, faith-based groups and businesses.

When parents and children perform community service projects together, they learn that every human being has worth, that we are stewards of this planet, and that the world is a better place when we care for one another.
Often all it takes is a little direction and inspiration from their school, parent group or faith community to get started.”
— Jenny Friedman, DGT™ Founder & Executive Director
