Library Kindness and Fun

Library Kindness and Fun

Libraries are so much more than just places to borrow books; they’re hubs for learning, connection, and (believe it or not) kindness!

Doing Good Together™ (DGT) is thrilled to partner with libraries to offer family-friendly service fairs, which connect families with opportunities to make a difference in their communities. These events are about more than spreading information; they're about spreading kindness. And what better place to do so than a library?

While libraries have always been pillars of community and learning, they also offer countless opportunities to engage in fun, kind activities. Whether through hosting events or simply creating inclusive spaces, libraries encourage acts of generosity and togetherness. This summer, why not explore the ways you and your family can give back, learn, and have fun at your local library?

Here are three simple and enjoyable ways to spread kindness while making the most of your library visits this season.

1. Craft for Kindness to Benefit Libraries

Take your kids to the library with the goal of doing something kind for the librarians, staff, and patrons.

  • Assemble bookmarks to hand out to library visitors.

  • Decorate thank-you cards for librarians or other community helpers.

  • Create care packages filled with small treats for the library staff that do so much to help our Miami-Dade community.

2. Find Doing Good Together Book List Books

Check out the book lists that we have at Doing Good Together and take out books with the same theme to do a summer thematic study with your kids.  Focus on mindfulness, gratitude, or helping the elderly.

3. Participate in a Library-Led Community Drive

Libraries are often at the heart of community drives, such as book collections, food donations, or school supply campaigns. Why not turn your next library visit into an opportunity to give back?

Encourage your family to contribute items to the drive and make it a teachable moment for your kids. Talk to them about why giving is important and how their contributions can help those in need. Some libraries even allow families to spearhead their own donation campaigns, so reach out to see how you might get involved!

Ideas for Library-Led Drives You Can Support or Organize:

  • Book Drives: Collect gently used books for schools or local organizations.

  • Back-to-School Drives: Donate extra notebooks, pencils, and backpacks for students in your area.

  • Food Drives: Bring nutritious, non-perishable goods to support food pantries nearby.

Make a Difference This Summer

If you’re lucky enough to live near a library participating in DGT’s Family Service Fairs, mark your calendar and join in! Not only will you find great activities to do together, but you’ll meet others who share your passion for making the world a kinder place.
