Prioritizing Kindness Through Music

Prioritizing Kindness Through Music

I have always found music to be a powerful tool. The lyrics can help us teach children compassion, caring, acceptance, connection and even empathy. Research shows that music is stored in long-term memory, which means that even when other memories fail us we can still access the melodies and lyrics of beloved songs to find comfort. Combining social justice with music creates an even more powerful tool to spread kindness through our communities. Check out some ways you can incorporate music and kindness into your daily lives this month.

Volunteer at a Nursing Home.

One way to share the gift of music is to volunteer to play an instrument at a nursing home, or organize a group of children in the community to bring their musical talents to the community. Visit a family member or friend and bring along the gift of song to share with their home!

Join a Community Sing-Along. There are community sing-alongs that allow you and your family to sing out for justice and peace. Find a sing-along and join your voices together for the greater good.

Organize a Music Concert. Work with a community center or a faith community to organize a community concert that benefits a nonprofit organization of your choice.

Volunteer at a Nonprofit that Produces Music. Organizations that provide concerts usually have volunteer positions to help usher or give back to the community in some unique ways. Find a list of possibilities here.

Teach Music to Kids. Help kids explore music at a library or a school with egg shakers, rain sticks, and simple percussion instruments!

Volunteer. Give back to the community by checking out our March volunteer listings for all different kinds of ways to give back during this month of generosity and love.
